Meet the team

Dr. William Adams graduated cum laude in 1969 from The Ohio State University School of Dentistry. He completed a U.S. Air Force General Dentistry Residency Program in San Antonio, Texas and served as a Flight Dentist/Oral Surgeon for a 13-chair clinic in North Carolina from 1970-72. He then completed his Endodontic Specialty training at Indiana University School of Dentistry as a resident at the VA Hospital in Indianapolis.

In 1978, He co-founded Indianapolis Endodontics with Dr. Kenneth Spolnik. Thanks to a love of learning and passion for sharing his knowledge, Dr. Adams was a full-time faculty member at Indiana University for 5 years and has continued teaching part-time for the last 27 years. He is a principal author of the first textbook on endodontic surgery, Surgical Endodontics, which was published in 1982. He has since published many clinical articles, lecturing on his findings both nationally and internationally.

Dr. David H. Pfotenhauer grew up in South Bend and completed his undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Notre Dame. After finishing dental school at Indiana University in 1989, he was commissioned as a Captain in the United States Air Force Dental Corps, and completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in Texas. Dr. Pfotenhauer served as a general dental officer in Utah, Turkey and Germany before beginning his Master’s in Endodontics program at Indiana University in 2000.

After his Masters program, Dr. Pfotenhauer served as Chief of Endodontics at Travis AFB in California and taught in a General Practice Residency. He separated from the Air Force and joined the Indianapolis Endodontics team in 2002.

Dr. Pfotenhauer is married with four children. He enjoys home improvement projects and playing the drums in the Praise and Worship band at his local church.

Dr. Paul J. Ley is originally from Westfield, Indiana and received his B.S. degree in Biology from Indiana University. He graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry and was inducted into"Omicrom Kappa Upsilon" a National Dental Honor Society. He completed a one year General Practice Residency program as well as his Endodontic Specialty training at Indiana University School of Dentistry. Dr. Ley has two children and enjoys traveling, hiking, skiing and spending time with his family.

Dr. Ashleigh Rexford grew up in Muncie, Indiana and completed her B.S. degree in biology at James Madison University in 2005. She received her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2009 and went on to complete her general practice residency at Indiana University Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis in 2010.

In 2012, Dr. Rexford completed her MSD in endodontics from Indiana University. Following graduation, she joined Indianapolis Endodontics as an associate and became a partner in 2014. She also teaches part-time at the IU undergraduate endodontic clinic.

Dr. Rexford is married and has two children. She enjoys spending time with her family and also loves running, biking, backpacking, and traveling.

Dr. Rexford is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.

Dr. Joseph B. Adams grew up in Boone, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology and graduating with honors in 2008. Dr. Adams continued his education at the Indiana University School of Dentistry where he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery and graduated with High Distinction in 2012.

Following his graduation, he completed a one-year general practice residency at the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Administration Medical Center in Indianapolis. In 2015, Dr. Adams completed a two-year residency in Endodontics at Indiana University School of Dentistry, receiving his Masters of Science in Dentistry and his Certificate of Endodontics.

Dr. Adams is married to his high school sweetheart, Brooke, and together they have four beautiful children. Outside of the practice, Dr. Adams enjoys golfing, running and other outdoor sports as well as spending time with his family and friends.

Dr. Adams is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.
